My wife’s just reminded me that it is our 14th wedding anniversary today and I was so busy I forgot – thankfully she’s forgiven me so it won’t be our last!!

I thought back to that day and wondered whether I would do it any differently? Of course it goes without saying that the bride would be the same!! Back in those days getting married abroad was almost unheard of and was the realm of pop stars and the nouveau riche but not any more.

Since getting married we have visited Cyprus dozens of times and if I had a euro (or had it better be a pound or a dollar these days!) for every time my wife says ‘This would be the perfect place to get married’ then I’d be a millionaire! I’m just a bit worried she’s planning her next wedding here!

There is definitely something to be said for it though. Maybe avoid the heat of high summer but a spring or autumn wedding in Cyprus will give fabulous memories of how you were married on the self-styled ‘Island of Love’

Friends of mine did just that, getting married in Ayia Kyriaki in Paphos, setting for the last few posts. Cyprus isn’t so far away as to make it unaffordable for your guests and group bookings with holiday companies can reduce the costs further. Imagine the relief at knowing with some certainty it will be sunny on your wedding day.

Of course there’s all the arrangements to be made but a host of wedding planners, many linked to holiday companies, will take care of everything. Be careful though if you are booking a ‘Wedding Package’ some companies will take short cuts to maximise their profits. Our friends insisted on having the wedding flowers supplied by Cosmea Gardens, including the button holes for the men and corsages for the ladies and, although it added a little to the overall cost, the flowers were exceptional, commented on by all of the guests and really enhanced the wedding photographs.

So if you’re thinking of getting married this year or next, think about Cyprus and start your life together on Aphrodite’s Isle
