Football and Flowers

My football team isn’t doing very well at the moment. We are bottom of the Premier League, about to be docked nine points for going into administration, £74m in debt and looking for new owners before we get wound up for not paying our tax bill!

On the bright side we have just won an FA Cup quarter final with the chance of making it through to our second cup final in three years – so maybe it’s not all bad!

So why am I talking football on a flower blog? It’s just that I saw the perfect flower arrangement for a Portsmouth fan today. Blue irises mixed with white tulips. They’re the perfect combination of spring flowers if you want to avoid the clichéd daffodils. And the bold blue of the irises make a real statement that not many other flowers can.

There’s the unusual shape of the flower with its three arms and the flash of white or yellow in the throat. Contrast this with pure white tulips and you’ve got a winning arrangement – unlike Portsmouth, who, as I type this post are losing 1-0 at home to Birmingham!
